According to Cointelegraph, the non-profit cryptocurrency advocacy organization Coin Center has warned that while Trump's victory is a good thing for the cryptocurrency industry, entrenched policies may still scare away cryptocurrency innovators in the United States. Van Valkenburgh, the research director of Coin Center, analyzed the prospects of US cryptocurrency policy after the 2024 election in an article and shared the three major "serious threats" facing US cryptocurrency users and developers in 2025. A major threat comes from the cryptocurrency reporting requirement under Section 6050I of the US tax code, which requires individuals who receive $10000 in cryptocurrency to file an undocumented report with the IRS. The second and third main threats stem from the sanctions imposed on Tornado Cash, including criminal charges of unlicensed remittance against the cryptocurrency mixing service and Samourai Wallet.
