According to data compiled by cryptocurrency researcher Molly White, the political action committee supported by the cryptocurrency industry spent approximately $133 million in the 2024 elections and will now focus on the 2026 midterm elections, where 33 out of 100 seats in the Senate and all 435 seats in the House of Representatives will compete.
Coinbase has announced a commitment to provide $25 million to Fairshake, a political action committee that supports cryptocurrency candidates, for the election in two years.
In addition, Andreessen Horowitz, one of Silicon Valley's largest venture capitalists, has pledged to invest over $23 million in Fairshake and its affiliated PAC for the midterm elections. According to CNBC's report in early November, Fairshake has raised a total of $78 million for the 2026 election.
It can be seen that political strategists of cryptocurrency are planning on a yearly rather than monthly basis. Smith stated that Fairshake will continue to be active in the 2026 election, and "this is not something that will happen overnight," she added.
When asked about accepting an interview with a16z regarding its political plans, a16z's spokesperson repeatedly mentioned a blog post written by partner Chris Dixon, which stated, "Although we have a long-term view on our own policy strategy, we believe it is time for Congress to take action now."
