According to a statement from the US Department of Justice, Mohammed Azharuddin Chhipa, a 35 year old resident of Virginia, has been sentenced to 30 years and 4 months in prison for funding the terrorist organization ISIS. The evidence shows that from October 2019 to October 2022, the defendant raised funds through social media and drove hundreds of miles to collect cash in person, then converted more than 185000 dollars into cryptocurrency and transferred it to Türkiye, and finally to ISIS members in Syria. These funds were used to support ISIS militants and rescue detained female members. In December 2024, a federal jury found him guilty of five charges, including conspiring to finance foreign terrorist organizations.
