ZKsync officially announced on the X platform that the latest ZKsync upgrade proposal focuses on optimizing elliptic curve precompilation and adding ModExp precompilation functionality. The gas cost for verifying typical zkSNARK proofs will decrease from approximately 6.8 million to approximately 370000, a reduction of approximately 94%. Through this upgrade, elliptic curve operations (ECAdd, ECMul, ECPairing) will be directly implemented in the circuit, reducing the cost of verifying ZK proofs by over 90%. Added ModExp precompilation function for fast modular exponentiation operations. This is crucial for many different cryptographic application scenarios, such as RSA and ZK proof verification. After the upgrade, developers do not need to take any action. Existing contracts that already rely on these precompiled features do not need to be redeployed. After the upgrade, the call will be automatically parsed into a new circuit implementation. The pre compilation upgrade has been launched online on the ZKsync Era testing network.
