Experts warn that quantum computing may pose a threat to Bitcoin security, triggering market 'liquidation'
Odaily Planet Daily News: Cryptocurrency experts warned at a private lunch during the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas that advances in quantum computing technology are posing an increasingly urgent threat to Bitcoin. Experts say that powerful quantum computers may crack Bitcoin private keys in the coming years, putting Bitcoin worth approximately $42 billion at risk and potentially triggering a market "clearing event". Google's latest research has found that cracking RSA encryption requires 20 times less quantum resources than previously estimated, further exacerbating concerns. Casa co-founder Jameson Lopp emphasized that "the Bitcoin community needs to reach a consensus and find ways to mitigate the threat before it truly becomes an existential crisis." Multiple solutions have been proposed, including introducing anti quantum encryption addresses and limiting the number of transactions for vulnerable addresses. (Decrypt)
