[Washington State Regulators Demand Coinme Refund Over $8 Million in Customer Funds] The Washington State financial regulatory authority has ordered Bitcoin ATM operator Coinme to suspend its operations and refund over $8 million in unredeemed customer funds. Regulators accused Coinme of treating unredeemed cryptocurrency vouchers as revenue, violating the Uniform Money Services Act. Coinme has been instructed to segregate customer assets and compensate users based on the higher value between the amount paid by the user and the cryptocurrency value on the date the order was issued. Additionally, the regulators plan to revoke its license, impose a $300,000 fine and a $375 investigation fee, and ban co-founder Neil Bergquist and the company from engaging in money transmission activities for ten years. Coinme has 20 days from the receipt of the order to request a hearing; otherwise, the temporary order will become permanent on the 21st day.
