According to Cointelegraph, Ethereum Foundation researcher Dankrad Feist proposed EIP-9698 on April 27th, planning to introduce the "Deterministic Gas Cap Growth Plan" from epoch 369017 (around June 1st). This is a plan spanning four years, which proposes to gradually increase the limit by 10 times over the first two years (i.e. 164250 epochs), until a final adjustment of the tenfold increase is made. In theory, if the gas limit is increased by 100 times, Ethereum's TPS is expected to increase to 2000 transactions. The proposal needs to be approved by the client's vote before it can be implemented.
This expansion attempt is another important development after the gas cap was raised from 30 million to 36 million in February. Feist pointed out that progressive improvement schemes can leave sufficient optimization time for node operators. At the same time, developers are testing the EIP-9678 proposal and plan to achieve a 4-fold increase in gas cap in the Fusaka upgrade by the end of 2025.
