[Spanish Research Institution Plans to Sell Bitcoin Worth Over $10 Million] The Institute of Renewable Energy and Technology (ITER), under the Tenerife Island Council in Spain, plans to sell its holdings of 97 bitcoins. These bitcoins were purchased in 2012 for $10,000 to conduct blockchain technology research and are now valued at over $10 million. Juan José Martínez, the Tenerife Island Commissioner for Innovation Affairs, revealed that the council is working with a financial institution authorized by the Bank of Spain and the National Securities Market Commission to complete the sale. However, the European banking regulations on Bitcoin transactions and the risks of volatility have added complexity to the transaction.
