[Fed December Rate Cut Vote May Be Deadlocked, Cook Becomes Key Vote]
Analyst Neil Irwin pointed out that there is significant division within the Federal Reserve on whether to cut interest rates in December. If Chair Powell, Vice Chair Jefferson, and New York Fed's Williams support a rate cut, they would need to secure a seventh vote on the committee to achieve a majority. Currently, four non-New York Reserve Bank presidents hold reservations about a rate cut, and Governor Barr, appointed by Biden, leans against it. Another governor, Cook, may become the key vote. President Trump has been attempting to remove Cook since last fall, and the related case is scheduled to be heard by the Supreme Court on January 21 next year.
