**[Cloudflare Acquires Deno to Enable Self-Hosted Deployments on Workers Platform]** According to a report by *Jinse Finance* on October 11, citing *Forbes*, Cloudflare has announced the acquisition of the JavaScript/TypeScript runtime company Deno. Deno's founder Ryan Dahl (the creator of Node.js) and co-founder Bert Belder, along with the entire team, will join Cloudflare. The core asset of the acquisition is the open-source project *celld*—a distributed deployment tool that runs Workers and Durable Objects using a single Rust binary file. This allows enterprises to operate Cloudflare's serverless model on their own infrastructure, addressing the long-standing criticism of "vendor lock-in" associated with the Workers platform. The company plans to integrate this into the open-source runtime *workerd* to achieve full self-hosting support. Deno had previously raised $26 million in funding, though the financial terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Deno Deploy will shut down in six months, and the Deno runtime will cease development after one year of security updates. This marks Cloudflare's second developer tools acquisition in four months, following its June acquisition of VoidZero, the company behind Vite.
