Katie Harries, Head of European Policy at Coinbase, stated that the UK Financial Conduct Authority's (FCA) proposed regulations for crypto assets will require regulated platforms to execute customer orders only on FCA-authorized exchanges. This will restrict users from accessing DeFi protocols through compliant platforms. Since decentralized protocols lack entities eligible for regulatory authorization, these rules will prevent regulated platforms from offering DeFi access services. The proposed crypto regulatory framework is expected to take effect on October 25, 2027.
