A senior U.S. diplomatic official stated that U.S.-Israeli military, intelligence, and diplomatic cooperation will continue unaffected by the Israeli election results, the progress of new government formation, or the U.S. midterm elections. The official said that if a decision is made to strike Iran again, it will be based on professional judgment and shared U.S.-Israeli interests, with objectives including the complete elimination of Iran's military nuclear program and the elimination of its military threat to the Strait of Hormuz and surrounding countries. The U.S. strategic objectives remain unchanged, and it favors promoting a broad-based unity government in Israel free of extremists; this issue was discussed in U.S.-Israeli talks early Wednesday morning.
