Binance suffered a theft of approximately $3.43 billion in assets early this morning, excluding the $2.43 billion in stablecoins frozen by stablecoin issuers. The largest stolen asset was 18,270 BTC, worth $1.44 billion, which the hackers have not yet touched. The remaining altcoins are being sold for ETH, and the hackers now hold 467,000 ETH, worth $1.06 billion.
Protocol engineer Justin Kalland analyzed that the suspected Binance attacker, after transferring 175 million USDT, may have left off-chain logs containing information such as the IP address by mistakenly paying 127.67 USDT in gas through MetaMask Gas Station. Kalland called on MetaMask to retain relevant Web2 logs; the address involved is 0xAa24…54a0.
