Thailand launches' TouristDigiPay 'program, supporting tourists to exchange cryptocurrency for Thai baht Thailand launches the "TouristDigiPay" pilot project, allowing foreign tourists to exchange encrypted assets for Thai baht for daily consumption. The plan will initially run for 18 months and will be supervised by the Ministry of Finance, Securities and Exchange Commission, Anti Money Laundering Office, and Ministry of Tourism and Sports. Tourists can exchange encrypted assets for local currency through regulated platforms and use them at merchants across the country. Although the project aims to support the growth of the tourism industry, it does not directly promote cryptocurrency as a means of payment. Participants are required to comply with strict anti money laundering and customer verification rules. In addition, Thailand has previously approved the exemption of capital gains tax on cryptocurrency transactions, with the policy valid until December 31, 2029. On August 17th, it was announced that Thailand will launch a cryptocurrency exchange program for foreign tourists.
