Suspected of stealing $400 million from FTX, SIM card exchange hacker requests temporary release to attend family and friends' birthday parties

Odaily Planet Daily News: A SIM card exchange hacker suspected of stealing $400 million in cryptocurrency from FTX has requested a temporary release, citing his desire to attend his girlfriend's sister's birthday party at Chuck E. Cheese store in Illinois. Robert Powell (also known as "ElSwapo1") was arrested in February along with two suspected accomplices and was subsequently released on bail of $10000 to return home. The conditions for his release include avoiding unnecessary Internet use and any online gambling, and he must stay at home in addition to appearing in court or seeking medical treatment. However, Powell's lawyer requested the court to "modify his release conditions" and allow him to attend the aforementioned birthday party on Sunday, November 10th from 2pm to 6pm, stating that according to the request, "Powell has fully complied with all release conditions" and "all other release conditions should continue to be valid." The request also stated that "pre-trial and government do not object to this request In February, it was reported that three people were sued for planning a SIM card exchange scam and stealing over $400 million from the bankrupt cryptocurrency exchange FTX. According to the indictment filed by the Department of Justice in federal court in Washington, D.C., Robert Powell, Emily Hernandez, and Carter Rohn collected personal data of approximately 50 victims and used this information to persuade mobile service providers to transfer the victims' phone numbers to the fake phones they held. This allows these three individuals to intercept text messages - including multi factor authentication codes, which allow them to break into the victim's financial account and encrypted wallet.
