Arbitrarum DAO begins voting on proposal to implement BoLD protocol on ecosystem chain

--

According to The Block, the Arbitrarum DAO is currently undergoing a public vote on an improvement proposal (AIP) aimed at transitioning Arbitrarum One and Arbitrarum Nova to the Bound Liquidity Delay (BoLD) mechanism. Since April 2024, BoLD has been online on the Arbitrarum testnet. It is an interactive fraud proof dispute protocol designed for optimistic aggregation, aimed at enhancing the security of all chains in Arbitrarum. If the AIP is approved in the vote, BoLD will be implemented on Arbitrum One and Arbitrum Nova in February 2025. At that time, these two chains will adopt a permissionless system, replacing the current allow list verifier system, allowing anyone to participate in network security protection. As of the time of writing this article, on chain voting has received unanimous support from community members. The BoLD mechanism will introduce a fixed time window to resolve Arbitrarum chain state disputes, in order to reduce the risk of delay attacks and prevent malicious actors from intentionally prolonging the dispute resolution process to disrupt the system. The time window is currently set for two challenge periods (approximately 13 days), with a two-day grace period for the Arbitrarum Security Council to intervene if necessary. In addition, another major highlight of BoLD is shifting the focus of controversy from individual validators to deterministic execution of L2 states, achieved by allowing anyone to participate in the verification process.
