The new SEC chairman may attend a Senate hearing on March 27th to review his nomination

Odaily Planet Daily News: According to Semafor reporter Eleanor Mueller, Paul Atkins, the SEC chairman candidate nominated by US President Trump, is advancing the appointment process. Tim Scott, chairman of the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee, plans to hold a hearing on March 27th to review his nomination. Previously, Atkins' confirmation process was delayed due to financial disclosure issues. Atkins served as an SEC commissioner from 2002 to 2008 and was a corporate lawyer at Davis Polk&Wardwell LLP before joining the SEC. It is expected that Atkins may adopt a more friendly attitude towards cryptocurrency regulation compared to former SEC Chairman Gary Gensler. Since Gary Gensler stepped down on January 20th, Mark Uyeda has been serving as the acting chairman of the SEC. During this period, the SEC established a cryptocurrency task force led by Commissioner Hester Peirce and abolished the requirement for financial companies to record cryptocurrency assets as liabilities. In addition, the SEC under Uyeda's leadership has recently withdrawn multiple investigations and lawsuits against companies such as Coinbase, Consensys, Robinhood, Gemini, Uniswap, and OpenSea, and is considering abandoning the requirement for cryptocurrency companies to register as exchanges.
