According to a statement from the US Department of Justice, five men have pleaded guilty to participating in an international digital asset investment scam. The criminal group operated through a Cambodian fraud center, enticing American victims to transfer funds into accounts under its control, with a total amount involved exceeding 36.9 million US dollars. The main defendants include Joseph Wong, Jose Somariba, Yicheng Zhang, Shengsheng He, and Jingliang Su from the Los Angeles area. The criminal methods involve contacting victims through social media, phone calls, and dating apps to lure them into investing in fake digital asset projects. The funds were ultimately converted into USDT stablecoins through a Deltec bank account in the Bahamas and transferred to a digital wallet controlled by the Cambodian fraud center. At present, eight accomplices have pleaded guilty, and the main offender faces a maximum of 20 years in prison. The US Secret Service is leading the investigation into this case, with multiple departments jointly involved. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney's Office for the Central District of California.
