[Former Software Company CFO Embezzles $35 Million to Invest in DeFi, Convicted of Wire Fraud] Nevin Shetty, the former CFO of a software company in Washington State, was found guilty by a federal jury on four counts of wire fraud for unauthorizedly transferring $35 million of company funds into his self-created crypto platform and investing in high-risk DeFi protocols. In 2022, after learning he would be terminated, Shetty secretly moved the funds, initially earning approximately $133,000 in profits. However, following the collapse of the Terra ecosystem in May 2022, the investment was nearly wiped out. He later admitted to his actions and was dismissed by the company. Shetty is scheduled for sentencing next February and faces a maximum of 20 years in prison.
