Ethereum EIP-8222 plans to enhance validator privacy, while institutional staking faces cost and compliance trade-offs

--

Ethereum improvement proposal EIP-8222 plans to separate pledged deposits and withdrawals through STARK technology and re anonymize validators to reduce the traceability of validator activities. Currently, about one-third of ETH is in a pledged state. Thibault Dubuis, Head of Pledge and Decentralized Financial Products at Sygnum Bank, stated that the visible chain formed by current deposit addresses, validators, and withdrawal vouchers makes institutional holdings, entry times, and pledge strategies close to public disclosure. The proposal is in the discussion stage and has not yet been scheduled for deployment. Its design involves fixed deposit denominations and asset collection waiting periods, which may increase the execution costs, process delays, and compliance work for institutional users.
