After years of experimenting with agent payments in the crypto space, the first truly practical solution turns out to still be credit cards. When I saw Grok Bot's latest shopping feature, my first reaction was: Damn, after all these years of Crypto working on Agent Wallets, stablecoin payments, and on-chain authorizations, AI ends up buying stuff using a one-time virtual card from Stripe and bypasses everything. The process is super simple: You link your Stripe Link to Grok Bot, and the Bot opens a browser, finds the product, adds it to the cart, and fills in the address. When it gets to the payment step, it requests an expense from you. Once you approve, Stripe temporarily generates a one-time-use virtual card for the Agent. After the purchase, the card becomes invalid, and the Agent never gets access to your real card details. The best part about this is that it doesn’t require merchants to cooperate at all. Websites don’t need to accept stablecoins, support x402, or deploy new protocols. As long as they already accept Visa/Mastercard, the Agent can theoretically make the purchase. Many of Crypto’s past agent payment solutions required the entire internet to adapt to Agents. Stripe flipped the script, making Agents adapt to today’s internet.
