Democrats flip North Carolina Senate seat; Senate election vote counting continues.

--

With approximately 10 Senate elections concluded, Democrats gained 43 seats and Republicans gained 32, a net gain of one seat for the Democrats. Former North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper defeated the Republican candidate, achieving the first Senate flip in this midterm election. Votes are still being counted in swing states such as Ohio, Texas, South Carolina, and Michigan, with Democrats temporarily leading in early counts of some Republican-held seats. Democrats need to gain three more seats to regain a majority in the Senate.
