Zcash community members have proposed terminating the development fund early, involving rewards worth over $300 million.

Zcash community member joshs has proposed terminating the current development fund model before its expiration in November 2028. This fund accounts for 20% of block rewards, with a total value exceeding $300 million. Currently, 12% of rewards go to the token holder fund, and 8% to the Zcash Community Funding Committee. The proposal is currently under community discussion.
