European Central Bank (ECB) Governing Council member and Slovak Central Bank President Peter Kazimir stated that the market may be underestimating the tightening measures the ECB needs to take to bring inflation back to its target. The energy price shock has not yet subsided, inflation is rising again, and slowing economic growth may not be enough to curb inflation. Kazimir said that the ECB's pause in interest rate hikes last week was not the end of the tightening cycle; the key is how much more interest rates need to be raised. ECB President Christine Lagarde stated that the policy direction is clear.
