On November 5, concerns about tightened regulations on AI data centers stemming from the US midterm elections triggered market stabilization mechanisms in both the Korea Composite Stock Price Index (KOSPI) and the Korea Oscillator (KOSDAQ). At the close, the KOSPI fell 5.28% to 5383.8 points, while the KOSDAQ index dropped 5.11%.
In terms of individual stocks, SK Hynix fell 9.46% and Samsung Electronics fell 7.57%. Market concerns arose that the US Democratic Party's push for stricter regulations on data center approvals, grid connection, and electricity costs after the election could lead to delays in some AI data center projects and lower demand expectations for memory chips such as HBM and DRAM.
