The United States has sanctioned eight Canadian companies involved with Iran and offered a $20 million reward for information on its nuclear program.
The U.S. Treasury Department announced financial sanctions against eight Canadian money services companies that conducted business with sanctioned Iranian entities and facilitated the exchange of Iranian rials and other currencies for digital assets. These companies assisted sanctioned Iranian digital asset exchanges and digital asset addresses linked to the Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps in conducting transactions. The sanctions restrict these companies' access to the U.S. dollar financial system. U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessant stated that Canada cannot become a safe haven for illicit financial intermediaries providing sanctions circumvention services to the Iranian regime and its proxies. The U.S. Rewards for Justice program also offers a reward of up to $20 million for information on facilities, equipment, and personnel related to Iran's nuclear program, and provides possible resettlement arrangements.
