Lightning Labs has opened Wavelength to users, enabling AI agents to autonomously send and receive funds on the Bitcoin mainnet via the Lightning Network and L402. These AI agents can pay API call fees, purchase data, and transact with other agents, with single transactions costing as little as 1 cent. Developers can integrate payment functionality without running Lightning Network nodes, managing channels, or raising liquidity. The toolkit supports independent on-chain exits, with an initial limit of 300,000 satoshis per wallet, and a 0.25% service fee for Lightning Network payments. European Central Bank (ECB) Executive Board member Piero Cipollone stated that a digital euro is expected to help the EU establish a self-sufficient and controllable payment infrastructure, reducing reliance on non-European third-party payment service providers. The ECB plans to launch a digital euro pilot program next year, testing it with real transactions.
