The CEO of S&P Dow Jones Indices announced in a recent interview that they’re creating a crypto version of the S&P 500, applying Wall Street’s stock standards to the crypto world for the first time. It will track a selection of top-tier projects, but guess what? Bitcoin isn’t included . The selection criteria for this index aren’t based on market cap but rather on the ability to generate long-term real economic value and business revenue, as well as giving returns to token holders. The CEO emphasized that they’ll strictly follow the S&P 500’s stock screening standards. So, the projects that make it into the index can be seen as receiving Wall Street’s official stamp of approval for value investing. Since the standards align with those for stocks, this index is expected to have a significant impact on traditional capital entering the crypto space. The first batch includes 18 tokens, with the top 5 being ETH, BNB, SOL, TRX, and HYPE. As for why BTC isn’t included, the CEO explained in the interview that it doesn’t meet the criteria for generating operational revenue.
