Binance hackers mistakenly transferred $3.5 million worth of tokens into the NEWT contract; the assets are irretrievable.

The Newton Foundation stated on the X platform that the attackers in the Binance hack transferred approximately 8 million NEWT tokens, along with 17 other tokens including ANIME, ANKR, ARPA, BARD, CELR, DENT, DOLO, FTT, GLM, HIGH, HOT, KNC, LQTY, RARE, RESOLV, SIGN, and WOO, into the NEWT token contract address, with a total value of approximately $3.5 million. The NEWT contract was designed to be immutable and had no owner or administrator privileges. The relevant administrative privileges were relinquished on-chain in 2025 and permanently banned from upgrading, rendering these tokens unrecoverable.
