In an interview with the Oxford Union, Binance founder Changpeng Zhao stated that the recent hacking incident was preventable, as some internal employees failed to adhere to basic operational security procedures. The attackers spent five to six months piecing together the attack chain, utilizing social engineering, phishing interviews, and AI techniques to find system vulnerabilities. Zhao Changpeng believes that while AI has exposed more security issues in the short term, in the long run, these issues will make the system more secure. The industry needs to collaborate with AI labs, law enforcement agencies, and security experts to promote a multi-layered defense system to cope with escalating attacks.
