[National Bank of Ukraine Rejects Cryptocurrency Legalization Bill] The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has rejected Bill No. 10225-d on the legalization and regulation of cryptocurrencies, arguing that it lacks regulatory safeguards and threatens national monetary sovereignty, financial stability, and economic security. The NBU is concerned about foreign tokens entering the Ukrainian market and circumventing local electronic money regulations. The NBU also objects to the market access mechanism, arguing that the bill leaves the number of cryptocurrency trading platforms to the securities regulator for a five-year period, posing risks of market concentration and corruption. The bill proposes that the National Securities and Stock Market Committee of Ukraine serve as the primary regulatory body and introduce a transitional tax rate of 5% for existing cryptocurrency assets until the end of 2028.
