Ethereum Pectra's next major upgrade: allowing a wider range of Gas payments and stakers to receive staking rewards exceeding 32 ETH

--

Odaily Planet Daily News: This week, the core developers of Ethereum have decided to divide the next major upgrade of the network, Pectra, into at least two parts, The first update will be released around February 2025. This includes a proposal EIP-7702, which allows users to pay for gas fees using other more widely used cryptocurrencies, instead of requiring gas fees on several other networks in the current Ethereum ecosystem to be paid in ETH. Another improvement is EIP-7251, which will allow Ethereum stakers to receive rewards for staking over 32 ETH. For example, users currently staking 40 ETH are unable to earn profits or voting rights from the additional 8 ETH. This will greatly reduce the bandwidth requirements of the entire Ethereum network. The other two proposals included in the initial version of Pectra, EIP-6110 and EIP-7002, will also achieve fully automated and permissionless ETH equity pools for the first time. And the rest of Pectra may have to wait until 2026 to be completed. (decrypt)
