A Thai Chinese man was entered by Thai police for extortion and demanded to pay 10 million US dollars for 'private use'

It is understood that the case occurred at the home of Mr. Sai, a Chinese man of Vanuatu nationality. At that time, Mr. Sai and his family, as well as several Chinese friends and domestic helpers, were present at the scene. Mr. Sai reported that in mid October, six Thai police officers in uniform and one ordinary person disguised themselves as law enforcement officers, carrying a so-called search warrant, broke into Mr. Sai's residence in Surabaya Province, Thailand, falsely claiming to conduct a court authorized search. During the search, the suspect claimed that Mr. Sai was suspected of being involved in a case of passport forgery and threatened him with legal sanctions if he did not pay a high amount of money. In addition, the suspect also demanded that Mr. Sai pay 300 million Thai baht or 10 million US dollars in USDT for "personal gain". After multiple negotiations, Mr. Sai agreed to transfer 5.6 million Thai baht (approximately RMB 1.17 million) and made two digital currency transfers to the digital wallets of members of the involved gang that afternoon. On October 17th, members of the involved gang contacted Mr. Sai again, requesting him to pay an additional 700000 Thai baht. After Mr. Sai reported the case, the Thai police immediately launched an investigation and confirmed a total of 12 people involved, including 9 police officers, 1 civilian, and 2 translators. At present, 7 suspects have been arrested, including 6 police officers, and 3 internet police officers have surrendered themselves. The remaining 2 Chinese translators are still being pursued.
