The Japanese Police Agency has determined that the theft of 4502.9 BTC from DMM Bitcoin was caused by Lazarus Group
Odaily Planet Daily News: Regarding the theft of 48.2 billion yen worth of cryptocurrency (virtual currency) exchange DMM Bitcoin, the Japanese Police Agency reported on December 24th that the incident was carried out by the North Korean based cyber attack organization TraderTraitor. South Korea announces that the criminal facts have been confirmed. Through a joint investigation with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Department of Defense Cybercrime Center (DC3), the agency has identified the perpetrator of the 4502.9 BTC theft that occurred in May 2024. Trader Raitor is believed to be affiliated with the North Korean hacker group Lazarus Group, and the attack was carried out in multiple stages. The police department stated that it will continue to cooperate with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, other US government agencies, and international partners to investigate the illegal activities of North Korean hackers, including cybercrime and cryptocurrency theft incidents. At the same time, the Police Department, Cabinet Cybersecurity Center, and Financial Services Department have released documents on the means and countermeasures of attack groups, calling on cryptocurrency related enterprises to be cautious. In response to this leak incident, DMM Bitcoin has decided to close its exchange.
