According to Beijing Business Daily, on January 10th, the Ministry of Public Security held a press conference, and the spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security, Zhang Ming, introduced the issue of telecommunications network fraud in northern Myanmar that has attracted attention from all walks of life. Since the deployment of the special work to crack down on telecommunications fraud crimes involving China in northern Myanmar in July 2023, the Ministry of Public Security has relied on the China Myanmar law enforcement and security cooperation mechanism to command joint operations by public security organs in Yunnan, Zhejiang and other places, and fully carry out case investigations. By the end of 2024, more than 53000 Chinese suspect involved in fraud had been captured, and the notorious Kokang "four families" criminal group in northern Myanmar had been completely destroyed. The large-scale telecommunications parks in northern Myanmar close to our border had been completely eradicated. The special work had achieved significant results in the stage, driving the number of registered cases and losses of telecommunications network fraud across the country to decline significantly. At present, the criminal group cases of the "four major families" have gradually entered the litigation stage.
Despite significant achievements in cracking down on governance, the current crime situation remains severe and complex. This includes: the intensification and upgrading of offensive and defensive confrontations, and the use of new technologies such as blockchain, virtual currency, and AI intelligence by fraud groups to constantly update and upgrade their criminal tools.
