According to Cointelegraph, Gary Gensler, the Chairman of the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), stated in an interview before stepping down that the 2024 US presidential election results were not significantly affected by funds from cryptocurrency interest groups. In an interview with CNBC on January 14th, Gensler stated that although the cryptocurrency industry has raised campaign funds, this election is not about funding in the cryptocurrency field. Gensler emphasized that the cryptocurrency industry is still a highly speculative field and pointed out its shortcomings in anti money laundering, sanctions, and securities law compliance. During his tenure, the SEC took multiple enforcement actions against cryptocurrency companies such as Coinbase, Ripple Labs, and Binance, despite criticism from industry insiders that the regulation was not clear enough.
