Financial Times: Trump Meme Coin Imitation Concerns Investors

2025-02-09 02:23

On February 9th, according to an analysis by the Financial Times, over 700 counterfeit and junk coins were sent to Trump's digital wallet, and the creators of these coins attempted to imply that their creations were endorsed by Trump. This move occurred a few days after Trump and his wife Melania launched the Meme coin, which had no practical use and was entirely supported by speculation, and then Trump returned to the White House last month. The Financial Times has found that 736 different memes have been deposited into Trump's official wallet in the past three weeks. Among them, nearly 200 coins, including "OFFICIAL TRUMP" and "OFFICIAL MELANIA", are named after Trump or members of his family, but have no association with the president. Trump and Melania's decision to launch their Meme coins has been fiercely criticized because these coins are more volatile than Bitcoin, attracting retail investors to invest.
