[U.S. Lawmaker Calls for Review of Bitmain and Cango Inc. Over National Security Risks] U.S. Republican Congressman Zachary Nunn has urged the federal government to investigate the operations of Bitcoin mining hardware manufacturer Bitmain and fintech company Cango Inc. in the United States, citing concerns that their expansion may pose national security risks. Nunn pointed out that these two companies have expanded their businesses through complex ownership structures and financing arrangements, making it difficult for the public and regulators to fully assess their transparency. Bitmain has denied rumors of plans to acquire Cango or directly own U.S. power plants, calling the allegations baseless. Cango, on the other hand, has declined to comment on market rumors or potential merger and acquisition transactions. Nunn has requested an investigation led by the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS), focusing on issues such as Cango's potential ties to foreign governments, Bitmain's acquisition intentions, and Cango's electricity usage in the U.S. The committee is responsible for assessing potential threats posed by foreign businesses to U.S. national security.
