Bhutan will explore the mining of 'green' cryptocurrencies, and the country's cryptocurrency investments have yielded profits of 'millions of dollars'
According to Reuters, two senior officials in the Bhutanese capital of Thimphu have stated that the country has earned millions of dollars in profits in recent years by investing in cryptocurrency, and has already used some of the profits to pay government employees for two years. According to Ujjwal Deep Dahal, CEO of Druk Holding and Investments, Bhutan's sovereign wealth fund, Bhutan will explore ways to use hydroelectric power to mine and utilize green cryptocurrencies in the future, ultimately no longer using fossil fuels to mine digital currencies. Currently, the fund controls Bhutan's only power generation company and began adding cryptocurrencies to its investment portfolio in 2019.
