Ledger responds to the reason for phasing out Nano S: limited memory makes it difficult to support new features and security enhancements

--

Ledger Chief Technology Officer Charles Guillemet stated on the X platform that the Nano S currently has 320kb of memory that is difficult to support new applications, feature submissions, and updates. LedgerOS, Bitcoin, Ethereum, and exchange applications alone almost occupy the entire memory, making it impossible to support multi application parallelism, clear signature improvements, transaction checks, and Ledger Sync ™、 Exchange (such as interacting with THORChain, etc.), new features such as device language packs, and security enhancements. In complex encryption environments, these features are crucial for improving clarity, availability, and security, and require stronger hardware support. Guillemet emphasized that existing Nano S users' assets will remain secure and accessible if their devices are functioning properly and their mnemonic words have been backed up, and the basic operations (sending/receiving/trading) of mainstream currencies such as BTC/ETH will not be affected. But upgrading to a new device can provide more comprehensive application support, future new features, and the best security experience. Yesterday's news that Ledger was about to phase out Nano S sparked user dissatisfaction and was questioned for forcing users to purchase new devices.
