Canada plans to ban cryptocurrency ATMs to combat fraud

--

The Canadian federal government announced plans to ban cryptocurrency ATMs in its spring economic update report, citing their use for fraud and illegal fund transfers. FINTRAC analysis shows that cryptocurrency ATMs are the main channel for fraudsters to obtain funds. Due to the lack of a bank account and manual verification, fund transfers are difficult to track. Currently, Canada has nearly 4000 cryptocurrency ATMs, with the highest per capita ownership in the world. The government stated that this measure aims to prevent illegal activities while ensuring the safety of virtual currency purchases. Countries such as the UK, New Zealand, and Australia have implemented similar restrictive measures.
