According to The Wall Street Journal, the US government is pushing for the formation of an international alliance called "Maritime Freedom Construct" to ensure safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. The US State Department sent a telegram to embassies on Tuesday, calling on diplomats to urge foreign governments to sign the agreement. The alliance will be led by the United States and responsible for information sharing, diplomatic coordination, and sanctions enforcement. The US State Department and Central Command will be responsible for diplomatic coordination and maritime situational awareness services, respectively. A senior executive official confirmed that this proposal is one of the policy resources available to President Trump.
