Among the incidents, KelpDAO suffered a $292 million loss due to a TraderTraitor attack, while Drift Protocol lost $285 million to another North Korean sub-group attack. The stolen funds from Drift remain dormant on Ethereum, while the funds stolen from KelpDAO were laundered by converting them to BTC through THORChain. Since 2017, North Korea has cumulatively stolen over $6 billion in crypto assets, with its share of global losses rising from less than 10% in 2020 to 64% in 2025.
