I don't find comps to 1973 super useful. The stock market firmly peaked in Jan 1973, a full ten months before the embargo. The quoted chart doesn't show that. Also CPI was nearly 8% and had already smashed thru the 1970 high on its way to 12%. Neither are great parallels to today
