Beijing Haidian Court rules on a virtual currency payment case

Beijing Haidian Court has disclosed a case involving virtual currency payments. From 2023 to 2025, the defendants Lin and Wang illegally obtained citizens' personal information data through the Internet, Lin obtained more than 600 million pieces, and Wang obtained more than 300 million pieces, and sold them for profit in the form of virtual currency collection. By 2025, the two individuals collaborated with Wang (to be handled separately) to build the "Social Work Database" website, illegally providing citizens' personal information more than 1300 times, with website traffic reaching 100000 times. The court sentenced Lin to seven years in prison and imposed a fine of 70000 yuan; Wang was sentenced to five years and six months in prison and fined 50000 yuan.
