According to Axios, the Trump administration is implementing a "phased and accelerated pressure" strategy on Cuba, including tightening economic sanctions, imposing "secondary sanctions" on the Cuban military conglomerate GAESA, and forcing Canadian mining company Sherritt International and shipping companies CMA CGM, Hapag Lloyd, and others to suspend their operations in Cuba. The US Southern Command recently conducted a cross departmental "tabletop simulation" to discuss response plans for large-scale protests and government suppression in the context of high temperatures, power outages, and material shortages in Cuba during the summer. Trump has not yet approved the invasion plan, but has requested that the military remain on standby at all times.
