Georgia cracks down on illegal mining and installs electricity meters in Mestia

According to Crypto Briefing, the Georgian government has launched a large-scale electricity meter installation operation in the Mestia region to combat illegal cryptocurrency mining. On June 1st, the Deputy Prime Minister announced that the measures will cover all villages in the Svaneti region and will be implemented in coordination with law enforcement agencies. By 2025, Mestia's electricity consumption will reach 133 million kilowatt hours, more than 13 times that of similar municipalities. Illegal mining causes energy losses of 20 to 25 million lari annually.
