Miami man Rodney Burton admits involvement in HyperFund fraud involving $1.8 billion
According to the US Department of Justice, Miami resident Rodney Burton has admitted to participating in the HyperFund cryptocurrency fraud program in federal court, involving an amount of approximately $1.8 billion. Rodney Burton has pleaded guilty to conspiring to operate an unlicensed fund transfer business, promoting the project and profiting approximately $7.85 million between June 2020 and January 2022. The project constitutes a large-scale cross-border telecommunications fraud network, and Rodney Burton faces up to 5 years of federal imprisonment. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for July 23, and the case is jointly investigated by the IRS Criminal Investigation Department and the Homeland Security Investigation Bureau.
