The Algorand Foundation has released a roadmap, aiming to achieve blockchain's resistance to quantum attacks by the end of 2027. This roadmap outlines upgrades starting from 2026, including the introduction of post quantum accounts, multi signature wallets, and staking support, with subsequent stages focusing on network infrastructure components. The Algorand Foundation states that this roadmap is built upon the work launched in 2022, with the goal of achieving broad quantum elasticity by the end of 2027. The Algorand Foundation expects to reach this milestone before NIST abandons certain traditional encryption standards, and three years ahead of the timeline set by the National Security Agency for the national security system.
