[Galaxy Research Analyzes the Status of Casascius Physical Bitcoin Commemorative Coins]
Galaxy Research stated that approximately 28,000 Casascius coins were minted between 2011 and 2013, collectively holding 91,469 BTC. Currently, only about 35,300 BTC remain unspent. Founder Mike Caldwell created 22 premium versions with a denomination of 1,000 BTC each, including 16 gold-plated bars and 6 pure gold coins. By 2014, 16 of these had been redeemed. The remaining 6 pure gold 1,000 BTC coins remained unopened for a long time until December 5, 2025, when two of them were transferred, releasing a total of 2,000 BTC. As of now, 4 pure gold Casascius coins with 1,000 BTC each remain sealed.
